This project has charted the lived experiences of a unique and profound era of British health care history: the AIDS Era. From the early 1980s young people, predominately gay men, were presenting to hospitals with life threatening illnesses, healthcare workers had little idea how to treat or care for them. Young people were dying and the fear of transmission, discrimination and stigma were rife.
